Q. What are the requirements to teach at MPS? 
A. The following items are required before a teaching contract can be awarded at MPS:

· Completed application 
· Bachelor degree and college transcripts from an accredited college or university
· Certificate of Health (Physical exam and TB test) 
· Drug test 
· Teacher Insight interview 
· Criminal background check 
· Wisconsin license to teach (or pending) 
· Birth certificate 
· Residency requirement 
Note: additional items may be required for certain areas 

Q. When should I apply to MPS? 
A. MPS accepts applications year round. The peak application period is in February - May for assignments in the school year starting in September. We encourage you to check our Open Positions listing and apply as soon as possible. 

Q. How should I apply to MPS? 
A. We encourage you to apply using our online, web-based application system. This is the fastest and easiest way to apply, and will ensure your application (and resume if you include one) reaches a staffing specialist promptly. You may mail, fax, or drop of a paper application if you wish. 

Q. What if I meet all the requirements except the State of Wisconsin teaching certificate? 
A. You may want to consider one of the Alternative Certification programs offered by organizations affiliated with MPS. Check out the Alternative Certification section of this web site. 

Q. Does MPS participate in recruiting and teaching job fairs? 
A. Yes. Check out our Recruitment Calendar for the dates and locations closest to you. 

Q. What kind of compensation and benefits program does MPS offer?

Q. Do I have to be a Milwaukee resident to teach at MPS? 
A. Yes. You must reside in the City of Milwaukee within 1 year of an appointment. 

Q. How do I know where I’ll be teaching within the MPS system? 
A. The school interview is the second step in the assignment process. First, you must have a contract to teach at MPS. Then, you can select multiple schools for the interview and assignment process, within your area of certification.
